Also appears in Motor and Mast

The weather is definitely colder and all the Ensigns are now on dry land. Chip Minshall’s “Chip n Dip” was the last to find its place in the Edgewater parking lot on jack stands. “Vulcan” has made the trip to Dunedin, Florida, for repairs and a refit after the collision and broken mast during the National Regatta. Before returning to Lake Erie, I hope to compete in the Ensign Mid-winter Regatta in Florida, March 15-18. Wes Kroeze, Dianne Kube and crew have been regulars for this event and have encouraged others to attend.

This fall, Ensign patriarch Charles Sligh III celebrated his 80th birthday in Holland, Michigan. None of the local sailors were able to attend, but we did send greetings.

Charley King, who has crewed on “Vulcan” ever since its first journey away from the docks at Edgewater in 1982, has become a boat owner. Charley’s son Michael will skipper their Jet 14 this coming summer.

After a multi-year successful term of office which included hosting successful regional and national regattas, Wes Kroeze and Dianne Kube have passed the tiller for Ensign Fleet 29 to Nick Lubar. Our fleet, as well as the NCWSA Ensign sailors, applaud Wes and Dianne for their fine work.
