| Sun Jun 6 | course 250, changed to 220 at gate, light air, tried to move right for a bit after the start, then went left; we had boat end start, on time, covered 634 and 1503 over to the right, as 601 and 1556 went left; our sails were the Haarstick, forestay was very soft, leads were at 4th position, backstay was loose; outhaul was 1" from the end of the boom; upwind speed and point were great; downwind speed was off, air went very light on the 2nd run, we won by 3 feet. Three different boats had the lead within 100 yards of the finish. This was the first race that 594 finished ahead of another boat, whoopee! 2nd race cancelled, no wind. Air temp was in the high 80's, water temp in the mid-to-high 50's; not sure why there wasn't a thermal, except for a very brief moment after we finished. An hour after our finish, wind filled in from the SW again, surprising. Another surprise was that a couple of puffs from the south felt "cold". |
| Sun Jul 3 | course 000, light and shifty, right side paid off, Nick got there, we started too far left and couldn't tack to the favored side; wind before the start was from the south to SE; last downwind leg, big hole in the middle boats passed us both sides; last windward mark, tried to pinch to the mark, had to double-hitch, lost too much time, should have just sailed; 2nd race cancelled, but wind picked up and it would have been fine; 2nd run, puffs on the inshore side of the course brought the trailers to the front; sails were Haarstick, leads were 1 spot forward of #4, 3 inches mast bend, jib halyard soft, jib trim 3" off the spreader, outhaul was pretty loose, traveller 8" up, boom 2" to leeward of center, no cunningham, no vang; speed was not good, just even with most boats, including some with old sails; |
| Mon Jul 4 | mostly southerly wind, very shifty, pressure up and down; we made out big on big left shift on first beat of first race, then didn't go left on the 2nd beat, Nick did and won going away; we held off 634 by one foot at the finish, finishing at the favored end and a good last jibe helped a ton; in the 2nd race, we held out for more pressure on the right; we made out well with that, but Edwards made out very well on the far left side; adjustments - put on 4 turns of backstay, that seemed better, and moved the jib leads back one to #4 - jib was trimmed to touching the turnbuckle on the bottom, 3" off the spreader in the lulls, 2" off in the puffs - outhaul was tighter than yesterday, on moderately hard, that seemed good too |
| Wed Jul 6 | course 030; wind 10-12, decreasing to 8-10; moderate chop; backstay + 5 turns, gauge on 20; North sails; outhaul tight; cunningham moderate; traveller up 8"; jib 1" off turnbuckle, 2.5" off spreader; jib halyard moderately tight, lead on #4; this was very good, we had both speed and point; |
| Sun Jul 10 | light to moderate; first course 310, changed to 330; second course 010; right side paid off all day; Haarstick sails; backstay -5 turns, lead on 1 hole forward of #4, jib was 2" off the turnbuckle, 3-4" off the spreader; main with moderate twist, traveller 8" or so up; left side of the run paid off with more pressure most times; |
| Sun Jul 17 | light to moderate; first course 230; Haarstick sails, backstay tension 10 on the gauge; jib leads at #4; jib was tight at the foot, 2" off the spreader most of the time, a little looser in the light spots; start was pin-favored, lots of traffic down there, we started at the middle of the line fast and in clear air; 634 tacked out of traffic and led the boats to the right; we thought the left would be favored, looked good there for a while, but then a right shift put 634 in the lead at the first mark, 1556 in 2nd; we felt slow at times on port, maybe we needed a little more twist?; downwind we got a little closer to 1556; but then a terrible downwind mark rounding lost us several boats and hundreds of yards; we picked up a boat or two upwind, but got beat out at the finish by 1503 at the favored (boat) end of the finish line; just after the finish, a big right shift, lots more air, lots of rain, 2nd race was called off |
| Wed Jul 20 | light and lumpy, North sails, backstay tension 5 on the gauge, jib leads 3.25; jib 1" off at the foot, 3-4" off the spreader; start was boat favored, 601 was 3-4 lengths late, when they tacked to the right, we covered |
